Check on Them Tour
According to C.D.C. data in 2021 more than a third (37%) of high school students reported they experienced poor mental health during the pandemic and 44% reported that they still feel sad and or hopeless over this past year.

Youth with poor mental health may struggle with school and grades, decision making, and their health. Mental health problems in youth are also often associated with other health and behavioral risks such as increased risk of drug use, experiencing violence, and higher sexual behaviors.

In the face of adversity support from schools, family, and communities protect adolescences from potentially devastating consequences. The Check on Them Tour was created to help youth with the mental health challenges they are facing. The tour involves colleagues and professional athletes that have overcome adversities and now are looking to give back in a very grass-roots way. It was started by Walt Disney Award Winner, Pitt Football Player, Tre Tipton and supported by Former NFL Veteran, William James. Here you have the opportunity to share your story and/or struggles with mental health. The box below is where you can submit and have your story heard by mentors. Your submission can be anonymous, a name is not required and everything is confidential. You're not alone, there is always someone ready to hear your voice.
Couple days ago I spent some time with the Monessen football team. These young men faced more adversity than most adults can comprehend. They battle to stay happy, they face things that no one should ever face. Through adversity these young men lost two brothers not just one and if you are curious to know what I am talking about do your research.

My friend and I had a conversation about what we could do. Our frustration grew because although these young men all over the city of Pittsburgh deal with a high amount of violence. started to look around to see who was taking action. Do me a favor don't just say "aww that's sad" or "I wish I could help". HELP!!!!!! check on them. Check on the kids. It doesn't take much to ask and tap in with them.

So from here on out the #lgotyourback is letting people know you got there backs and the #checkonthem is showing that we as community need to check on our kids before there's not enough time to ask "what can
we do to fix it." If vou are an organization fighting against violence in our communities. Reach out it's time that we become accountable and help each other make change.
