TEAM HUMANITY AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS '24

TEAMHUMANITY PROGRAMS AT VERTICALS

Team Humanity offers several different supplemental 4-6 week enrichment programs, which are offered throughout the school year. Through fun activities, our students’ gain skills which supplement their academic development and provide exciting new experiences which they might not be able to fit into a busy school day.

TEAMHUMANITY PHYSICAL & MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

Each session of the program is split into two primary components: physical workouts and mental health discussions. The workouts are tailored to be inclusive and varied, focusing on core strength, endurance, flexibility, and partner exercises to build trust and camaraderie among participants. These are complemented by mental health themes woven into each session, facilitating discussions on topics like affirmations, stress management, mindfulness, and the importance of nutrition, all aimed at boosting mental clarity and emotional resilience.

A key feature of the program is its innovative themes: "Abs and Affirmations" and "Spotter for Life." "Abs and Affirmations" focuses on strengthening the core muscles while engaging students in positive self-talk and affirmations to enhance self-esteem and mental fortitude. "Spotter for Life" emphasizes the value of support networks, using partner-based physical exercises as a metaphor for the importance of having emotional and mental support in real life.

The curriculum also includes a unique component—a collegiate site visit. This excursion is planned to give students a firsthand look at college-level mental health resources and to hear directly from college students and staff about managing mental health at the tertiary level. This outing aims to prepare students for the transitions they may soon face and to emphasize the continuity of mental health support throughout one's educational journey.

Another enriching aspect of the program is guest sessions from mental health professionals. A licensed therapist will visit to discuss the benefits of therapy, addressing common misconceptions and providing students with insights into how mental health care can be a regular part of maintaining overall wellness.

This program is not just an extracurricular activity but a crucial educational experience that arms students with the tools they need to manage both their physical and mental health. By the end of the six weeks, participants are expected to have a deeper understanding of how their bodies and minds work in harmony and how to apply this knowledge to improve their daily lives and academic performance.

Overall, the Physical and Mental Fitness Program is designed to empower students, providing them with the skills and knowledge to lead healthier, more balanced lives while fostering an environment of support and understanding within the school community.

TEAMHUMANITY DIGITAL LITERACY PROGRAM

At its core, the program focuses on four main areas: Internet Savvy, Tech Tools, Smart Social Media, and Coding Basics. Each area is designed to not only enhance students' technical skills but also to foster critical thinking and ethical considerations regarding digital consumption and creation.

Internet Savvy sessions dive into the fundamentals of using the internet effectively and safely. These include understanding cybersecurity, recognizing credible sources, and employing smart search techniques for research and learning. This segment aims to prepare students to navigate the vast information network responsibly and efficiently.

Tech Tools introduces students to various software and applications that enhance productivity and creativity. From word processors and spreadsheets to more specialized software for graphic design and video editing, students learn to utilize these tools to enhance their school projects and personal endeavors.

Smart Social Media tackles the nuances of digital communication and personal branding. It emphasizes the importance of creating a positive digital footprint, understanding privacy settings, the impact of social media on mental health, and the skills needed to use these platforms to one's advantage, whether for networking, education, or personal growth.

Coding Basics offers an introduction to the world of programming. By understanding the basics of code, students gain insights into how digital tools and applications are built and function. This session not only demystifies an essential skill in the tech industry but also encourages logical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Moreover, the program incorporates interactive workshops where students can apply what they've learned in practical scenarios, fostering a hands-on learning environment. These workshops encourage collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, as students work together on projects that simulate real-world challenges.

To complement the technical skills, the program also embeds discussions on digital ethics, such as data privacy, copyright laws, and the societal impact of technology. These discussions are designed to prepare students to be not only proficient in technology but also thoughtful and ethical digital citizens.

By the end of the Digital Literacy Program, students are expected to have a solid foundation in digital skills that will serve them well beyond high school. The program aims to create confident, capable, and responsible digital natives who are prepared to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

In summary, this program is an essential step for students to become adept and thoughtful participants in the digital age, providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary for both academic success and responsible citizenship.
