In our third year of planting and caring for a Community Garden on the site of the Mulligan Manor Senior Housing site, we added an organic garden across the street on the site of the First Christian Church of Brownsville. Student workers planted, tended, and harvested both gardens. Produce was made available to seniors at Mulligan Manor and members of the community. Students learned about healthy foods, the difference between organic and regularly grown produce and the value of fresh foods in keeping fit and healthy. We had a pizza shop that bought organic basil from our garden.
